About Me
Amanda Day was born in 1988, 19 minutes before her identical twin sister. Her interest in art began at a young age, watching Playschool, which is a children’s educational program. Armed with cardboard, paper and scissors Amanda would emulate their artwork from her lounge room floor. Amanda demonstrated a natural ability with the arts, her primary school teachers amazed as she was one of the few students who could colour within the lines. Throughout high school, Amanda continued to excel, being a straight A student who won numerous academic excellence awards. Early on in high school, Amanda ventured into the field of multimedia, creating stop motion films with plasticine figures that she crafted herself. Eventually promotional films of Amanda’s were shown in technology exhibitions and she became a finalist in a short film festival on Foxtel, her film shown on television. Despite being a physically identical twin Amanda pursued a different career path than her sister. She created the name “Twinessence” that would serve as the banner for her artistic pursuits. In the later years of her high school education Amanda produced a short film which placed her as one of 12 winners nation wide of the “Byte Awards” a national technology competition. Her successes in high school instilled in Amanda a strong desire to work within the artistic industry. Thus, Amanda finished school early, subsequently attaining a certificate in Film and Television Production from the Queensland School of Film and Television. Sadly Amanda fell ill shortly afterwards, her immune system starting to fail. This did not deter her and she continued to work within many different fields of expertise, including, but not limited to retail, hospitality, office administration and multimedia as a graphic artist. However, Amanda’s health deteriorated and she had to stop working, confined to her bed for the better part of a year. It was here that Amanda’s real artistic journey began. Scanning through eBay on her laptop, Amanda searched for something that could fulfill her artistic need. Passing over the idea of creating jewelry, Amanda discovered a new art form being sold on eBay, One-of-a-kind Polymer Clay sculptures. Intrigued and confident that she could produce her own vision within the art form, Amanda spent endless hours researching what was required to produce artworks to a professional standard. She purchased supplies off eBay, having them delivered to her door. Still restricted to her bed, Amanda lay in bed and sculpted atop a tray which sat on her stomach. Amanda felt her first sense of achievement since being ill when her first doll sold for $80 on eBay. After medication and an operation Amanda’s health improved, and she expanded her business to a point where gift galleries bought her creations and resold them to the public. The name “Amanda Day” was starting to become known in Australia, people beginning to collect her works.Amanda now gave support to other budding artists, posting helpful video and written tutorials online. Down to this day she imparts her knowledge to others, teaching sculpting classes in her own private studio room. Amanda found this to be very rewarding. However, something was missing. Her sickness had stalled her social life. She asked a friend to introduce her to some genuine people. Not knowing many people locally, he gave her a list of people from Victoria, where he had grown up, both male and female. Amanda was to introduce herself as his friend. Communication with them all via facebook, one caught her eye. He was about the same age, funny, kind and empathetic towards her. A relationship developed online, moving to the telephones and eventually neither of them could resist meeting in person. Adrian flew across 2 states, somewhere he’d never been, to meet a girl he had never met. It was love at first sight. After months of flying backwards and forwards between states, it got to the point where Adrian decided to make a permanent move to Queensland. He had no family or friends in Queensland, Amanda was all he knew. He packed everything he could fit into his small car and drove 2000 kilometers to his new home. One year later Amanda and Adrian are engaged to be married and he forever inspires her to create new artworks. Soon they will be married and Amanda will keep creating her art. She is hoping to pursue love and art for the rest of her life. |
